A countertenor, clarinetist, and performer, Sylvain Manet is a versatile artist. He began his musical training on the clarinet at the Compiègne Conservatory and later at the CNR in Lille, where he earned his DNOP in 2011. While pursuing his studies, he founded the klezmer band Paye ton Schtreimel, with which he toured festivals, bars, and the streets of France. In 2010, he decided to become a singer. He first trained at the CNR in Lille with Françoise Sémellaz, then in Saint-Quentin with Delphine Collot, where he earned his CFEM. In September 2014, he enrolled in the master’s program at the CMBV (Versailles Baroque Music Center). Thanks to this training, he has performed as a soloist and chorister with numerous ensembles: Le Concert Spirituel, Les Talents Lyriques, La Rêveuse, Pucinella, and the Radio France Choir…
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Music Voice at the CNSMD in Lyon, where he studied with Robert Expert. He is a member of several ensembles—Les Mélanges, Spirito, and Stimmung—and has performed with the Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing (Dido and Aeneas in 2016), Les Musiciens du Louvre (2016), and Les Voix Animées (2017). With these ensembles, he has had the opportunity to perform at Thoronet Abbey, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Arsenal in Metz, the Hall of Mirrors, the Opera House, and the Chapel at the Palace of Versailles.
To support his research at the intersection of music and movement, he trained in yoga and Baroque dance with Béatrice Massin, and in stage writing and choreography during a workshop with Gisèle Vienne. He has also worked as a performer and/or musician-actor for the Brigitte Nielsen Society, the Compagnie dans l’arbre, and the Collectif XXY.
